Recovery

Ashley's surgery was "planned" to be 90 minutes. They took my baby back into surgery at 7:30am and we didn't see her until noon. It was the longest 5 hours of my life. It was a very, very long 6 weeks of recovery but she was a trooper and we made it. The first two days home from the hospital were the worst. It was very hard to adjust to the wheelchair and our new way of life. Keeping a 4 year old off of her feet is really hard. What make everything worse was her incision opened up at some point after surgery and we discovered it 3 weeks into her recovery. We headed back to TSRHC the on the Sunday before Thanksgiving and an on-call dr took her cast off to see what was going on. It was more than I could see... not pleasant, but again, Ashley did great and was really brave. The LONG six weeks finally came to an end on my birthday. It was by far the best birthday present I've ever had, seeing my baby free from those casts!
